Vista delayed until 2007
Posted: 25/03/06
Windows Vista, Microsoft's latest release of their operating system since Windows XP, has been delayed until at least January 2007. Originally, the OS was due to be released in the second half of this year, but now won't be released until after Christmas.
Everyone knows that PC manufacturers sell more PCs over the Christmas period than any other time of year, so why release a new OS just after? The uptake is going to be extremely slow as a consequence, and leave firms interested in providing content on this platform with no alternative but to 'can it.'
If you add to this the fact that Microsoft is intending on releasing no less than SIX different versions of Vista, with varying support for certain features, such as aero (Windows Graphics Foundation 2.0); it leaves many content developers out in the cold, and wondering whether they should keep Vista in their long-term strategies.
