Javascript, AJAX and RSS
Posted: 05/01/07
I've been enjoying dipping back into a bit of Javascript, and finding it quite nostalgic... I forget how much like Actionscript it is!! I've been concentrating most of my efforts around the XMLHttpRequest object; the backbone of any AJAX application. Before IE7, the only way you'd get this working on a microsoft browser was to use the ActiveX object. Now, thanks to some long awaited standardisation, IE7 now supports the native XMLHttpRequest object! However, before I get too carried away, I should mention that IE6 will linger for years yet, and therefore developers are still going to have to code for both eventualities.
I've built a useful little AJAX RSS feed reader, which is detailed in the portfolio section of the site.
Have a play with the feed reader
